FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between relaxation, therapeutic, and structural massage?

Focus and intent. With relaxation massage the focus is broad to include all the major muscle groups and the intent is to calm and sooth. Therapeutic massage is a medium pressure massage. The focus is specific and the intent is to reduce pain and stiffness. Structural massage is a deep tissue massage with a focus on postural correction. A structural massage involves the discussion of posture, addresses the root cause of pain patterns as well as self care instructions.

Do I have to completely undress in order to receive a massage?

NO! This is one of the biggest misconceptions of massage! There are many massage techniques which do not require disrobing. We encourage you to undress to your comfort level. Successful therapy cannot take place if the recipient is uncomfortable.

It is true that there are some massage techniques such as effleurage and petrissage which require hand to skin contact. However, there are many techniques that a trained LMT can use which work through a clients clothing. For example, compression, traction, rocking, and friction.

You can choose to disrobe completely, wear your underwear, or wear your clothing...Massage Therapists go through training to learn to properly drape (cover patient with a sheet) during a massage.
